The Camp d’été qui danse, a great learning melting pot! (English traduction)Éloïse Bastien, 18, a former student of the Académie de danse de l’Outaouais since the age of 7, a student in professional training, contemporary dance, at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, talks about her experience at the Dancing summer camp.Unusual discoveries :
Summer has always been for me a special time of the year when it was easier to discover several types of dances, in the same formation, but each with the same care, without going down the wrong path thanks to the varied programs offered at Camp d’été qui danse (Dance summer camp).
I realize, with hindsight, because I participated in it since the age of 7, that it allowed me, among other things, to open my horizons to other cultures. For example, at the Stage intensif, I discovered several folk dances from around the world and I am now proud to know, if only a little, the color of these countries.
The open-mindedness has only just begun, because my various experiences at the Camp d’été qui danse (Dance summer camp) have also forged in me a creative spirit, open to novelty. The creation workshops awakened in me not only the pleasure of discovering creation, but also the desire to emancipate myself even more in this area afterwards.
The Galerie danse, a very innovative project, and which is part of a logical continuation of training, has also allowed me this emancipation by allowing me to create works which, this time, were completely personal to me.
Every summer, every project, every program, I have greatly appreciated the diversity and high quality of the teaching staff with whom we have had the privilege of working. We had 2 to 4 specialist teachers per camp or per program, which allowed me to make a lot of progress during these summers filled with exciting and exhilarating challenges.
Transcendence:
With these novelties and this beautiful diversity … inevitably come good challenges. By trying new dances, by being immersed in universes to which I was not accustomed, by adapting to different pedagogical approaches and by sometimes being confronted with myself during trying creative sessions, I found a strength that I now still carry with me; the thirst for “self-transcendence”. And the best part is that I was never pushed to forge it. It came alone, because I had fun!
Friendships:
The Dance Camps of the Academy allowed me to meet people, friends and masters, who marked my youthful summers and who, they too, forged me in their own way. Although the educational and creative aspects of these summer trainings now take their place (and all their meaning), I realize that I found above all pleasure and several memorable memories.
I wish you at least once in your life as a young dancer, the Camp d’été qui danse (Dance summer camp)! |
